Not all paths to parenthood are the same. There are many options available to those who do not take the “traditional” route. At SRM we will provide the information and support you need to choose the path that is right for you.
Beginning Your Journey
The first step is a consultation and physical exam. This will enable your physician to get to know you, assess your fertility, and begin to create a customized treatment plan.
Choosing a Sperm Donor
After you have worked out your treatment plan with your physician, you will need to choose a sperm donor. You may wish to use the sperm of someone you know, or select a donor from a sperm bank. Then you will arrange an appointment for your known donor to come in to our center, or arrange to have frozen sperm shipped to us. Your treatment plan will determine the type of sperm preparation.
We recommend that your donor undergo a complete medical screening so that you are aware of any genetic issues he may have. After screening, his sperm will be collected, frozen, and quarantined until his health can be retested 180 days later. When considering using a known donor, it is wise to get legal counseling regarding the laws in your state so you can ensure your child’s best interests are protected.
Sperm Banks
If you decide to use a sperm donor, we can help you through that process. We work closely with accredited sperm banks, many of which will allow you to browse or search donors by characteristics such as height, ethnicity, education, eye color, or blood type. You may then purchase an in-depth profile. Note: Before you purchase sperm, be sure to find out what preparation you will need for the procedures in your treatment plan.aware of any genetic issues he may have.
